The Real Effect of the VW Emissions Scandal

If you’ve been keeping up with the news lately then you will have undoubtedly have heard plenty about Volkswagen’s emissions-rigging. While this will undoubtedly have a huge impact on VW as a company, what are the real world effects that this rigging will have on the company’s customers?

Which vehicles are effected?

It may surprise you to find out that it isn’t just VW that’s affected, the whole Volkswagen Group has this problem including VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda. If your vehicle has the EA189, 2.0 litre TDI engine then you will be effected by this scandal - it is likely that VW will need to repair or replace this software, in this care you should be given a courtesy car and the work done for free under a mass recall.

Will there definitely be a recall?

This strongly depends on whether it is found that these vehicles are running above permitted pollution levels or not. If they are found to be above this, then there will definitely be a recall - if not, then it is unlikely there will be a recall as they will have passed the stricter EU standards and are therefore not illegal.

While this may be a huge stain on VW’s reputation, the vehicles are still safe, roadworthy and reliable - meaning that they will still deliver the same performance that you’ve come to expect from this manufacturer. However, it may be worth waiting a while before buying a new VW to see what the outcome of this scandal will be.
